Isaac Lowe

Isaac Lowe, a native of Montana, was born in the city of Billings in 1975. With the encouragement of his parents, he developed a passion for art at a young age and began drawing and painting from an early age. By the time he was in high school, he was already earning money through commissioned portrait paintings, a practice that he continued through his college years.

In 1995, Isaac enrolled at Montana State University in Bozeman to pursue a degree in Fine Art, but after two years, he decided to leave the program. He explains that he felt restless and wanted to explore other options. So he moved to rural Oklahoma and took a break from painting, instead focusing on playing guitar in a band for a year. However, during his time in Oklahoma, Isaac found himself deeply inspired by the simple and barren landscapes of the state.

Upon his return to Montana, Isaac rediscovered his love for the state's natural beauty and focused on capturing simpler views of the landscape rather than grand vistas. Additionally, he became fascinated by the man-made, industrial elements in the environment and began to incorporate them into his paintings, giving them a sense of personality. He explains that although these elements are part of the landscape, they read more like still-lifes in his paintings.

Isaac graduated from MSU with a degree in marketing, and in addition to his painting, he also works on bronze patinas at Northwest Art Casting in Bozeman. He finds this work highly demanding and creative and believes it complements his career as a painter. Isaac currently lives in Montana with his wife and daughters and is thrilled to be painting in the heart of the Gallatin Valley, with inspiring subjects right outside his door.
